So in all the excitement last week with the School of Chic, we neglected to make a big fuss over the other major event in the bridal calendar: New York Bridal Fashion Week. This annual showcase of the new bridal collections sees some of the best known wedding dress designers in the world unveil their new collections for the next season. Every year these designers, including big names like Vera Wang, Oscar De La Renta and Monique L’Huillier set the tone for the rest of the international bridal designers, so we await these new trends with baited breath – of course we can’t wait to see what will be coming to the aisles next year. Over the next few days we’ll be bringing you the new 2014 bridal collections and our view on the hot trends for bridal dresses in 2014. To start us off we have none other than the Queen Bee of weddings: Vera Wang. A far cry from what you might expect from the first lady of bridal fashion, these are wedding dresses with attitude.

Strip back the gloves from the first of the Vera Wang 2014 wedding dresses and you have utterly chic strapless designs, using delicate contemporary lace patterns and subtle use of modern-chic detailing like mini-peplums and v-shaped bodices. The black bodice part of the collection is a different story, however, not a subtle look at all, a strong statement for a bride with a distinct sense of self.
